Twin Cities Startup Week

The Institute on the Environment is delighted to invite you and a guest to attend the Acara Open House 2016.

Acara prepares young leaders to take on the greatest environmental challenges through coursework, training and guidance, fellowships and internships throughout the world. Many of you have participated in Acara programs during the year (as students, coaches, judges, guest instructors, supporters and volunteers), we would love to see you and share a number of new changes happening at Acara as well as hear stories from recent Acara Fellows and Interns.

This summer, 18 Macalester students took part in Mac Startups, a student-run entrepreneurship incubator. After identifying problems in the Twin Cities community (and beyond) they developed creative products to solve these problems. Their projects range from a mobile app for sports scheduling, to a platform for learning endangered and minority languages, to a clean energy tea. On September 20th at 11:30am, the teams will be showcasing their work at a "Demo Day" event on Macalester's campus. Demo Day will feature short pitches from each of the Mac Startups teams, as well as a light lunch and networking.

Food will be provided! Make sure to register so we can be sure to have enough food for everyone!

Join the Holmes Center for Entrepreneurship at the Carlson School on September 22 to learn about the booming startup scene in Helsinki, Finland.  Tomi Rauste, Vice President of Finn Pro for the Americas and Kristina Garcia, Director of Invest Finland will be joining us to share the exciting activity happening in Scandinavia. 

Serial entrepreneur Howard Leonhardt of Leonhardt BioVentures, Cal-X Crowdfund Connect and other ventures will share his story and perspectives as a  medical devices serial entrepreneur, equity crowdfunding proponent, and advocate for conscious capitalism.
